Do you only trust things that can be proven by science? Do you find scientific truths more convincing than moral truths? If so, this shows how you might be affected by the dangerous ideology of scientism.
Scientism teaches that the hard sciences alone have the authority to give us knowledge. Areas like ethics, theology, and philosophy are based on private emotions, opinions, and blind faith. As Dr. Moreland explains in his book, Scientism and Secularism,
“To the extent that scientism is embraced in our culture, our moral and spiritual claims will be ‘de-cognitivized.’ In other words, our deepest beliefs about life, knowledge, history, and reality will seem to be utterly implausible — not just untrue, but unworthy of rational consideration.”
Dr. J. P. Moreland, Distinguished Professor of philosophy at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University, joined me to discuss how we as Christians can respond to scientism. Christians must respond in order to keep Christianity worthy of rational consideration. Listen to our interview and get your own copy of Scientism and Secularism so that you are ready to defend the faith.
